We’ve all been there. You’re wandering round doing an afternoon’s sightseeing and then you need the toilet. But you can’t find one anywhere! No worries, here are 8 free toilets in Central Copenhagen, close to all the main tourist spots:

Jump to: Little Mermaid | NyhavnCity Hall Square | Christiansborg | Christiania | Nørreport | Amagertorv | Torvehallerne

1. The Little Mermaid

The area around the Little Mermaid isn’t too built up, but there are free toilets just 2 minutes away. Walk towards the city until you reach a fork in the path. Take the right fork, go into the park on your left and at the end are free toilets.

2. Nyhavn

Many of the cafes and bars at Nyhavn don’t have toilets, but luckily there are toilets at the west end of Nyhavn. Where the water stops, underneath the canal tours ticket office are some of the nicest free toilets in central Copenhagen. Female on the south side, male on the north side.

3. Rådhuspladsen (City Hall Square)

If you’ve come out of Tivoli or Glyptoteket without going to the toilet, don’t fear. There’s one at the north end of the square, in a green cabin opposite the city hall. Don’t be put off by the construction work – it’s still there.

4. Christiansborg Palace (Gammel Strand)

Just the other side of the canal from the north side of Christiansborg Palace you’ll find free toilets. You’ll see them in a small cabin, just next to where the canal tours depart from on Gammel Strand. Male and female toilets available.

5. Christiania, Nemoland

Christiania might not seem the type of place to have free toilets, but it does! Head to Nemoland, the main open air concert/leisure area, where towards the back is Café Nemoland. Go through the main doors, then turn left before the bar to reach the toilets.

6. Nørreport Station

If you’re near the Round Tower or about to get the Metro or S-Tog, there are toilets in Nørreport Station. You’ll have to go down into the station itself, from where they are signposted. You don’t need a travel ticket.

7. Amagertorv (On Strøget, the main shopping street)

If you’re shopping on Strøget, you’ll find free toilets in Amager Torv, at the centre of this long shopping street. They’re directly in front of the Royal Copenhagen store, down some short steps from street level.

8. Torvehallerne Market

You’ll see a small yellow building at the north end of the market, in its own building next to Frederiksborggade. Gentlemen down the stairs, ladies at ground level.
